The 2020 edition of the Koala silver coin was issued yesterday. The Perth Mint donates part of the proceeds to the victims of the Australian fire disaster.
Koala silver coin
The Australian bush has been burning for weeks. The devastating forest fires have worked their way into the suburbs of the big cities in southeastern Australia. And the Perth Mint does not launch the 2020 edition of its popular silver coin Koala, released yesterday, without comment and inaction. After all, many of these animals have already died in the inferno. The mint has announced that it will donate 15 percent of the proceeds from the silver koala sales to the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie (New South Wales) in the first seven days after first publication.
Conditions and motif
The Koala silver coin of one ounce (9999 silver) is minted in a limited edition of 300,000 copies. The 1 kilo koala coin, which is very popular among investors due to its relatively low price, will be produced in unlimited quantities in the 2020 calendar year. The motif of the coin changes from year to year. The 2020 edition shows a large koala clinging to a bamboo trunk (see figure above). On the value side you can see the profile of Queen Elizabeth II as usual. With the limited edition and the changing appearance, the silver koala is not a classic investment coin in contrast to the silver kangaroo.
